Two teams which have stumbled down the stretch can be grateful that they lucked out and find themselves squared off on Saturday night, where atleast one of them has to win.
The 12th Man
No team in the past few years have enjoyed a better homefield advantage than the Seattle Seahawks. Trust me that stadium rocks and emits noise levels not thought possible. The Seahawks are simply a better team at home than on the road and they may have not been as dominant this season, but they are only a year removed from running the table at Qwest Field.
Romo's Bounce Back Game
Michael Irvin's Immaculate Quarterback Hero showed some signs of weakness the past two weeks committing a total of 5 turnovers and putting the ball on the ground 4 times alone against the Lions. Will Romo continue with his past weeks follies or return to the level of success rate where insane Cowboys fans and Cowboy Alumni such as Irvin were proclaiming him the next Roger Staubach, with hidden African Genes.
The Cowboy Duo
What is the greatest weakness of the Seattle Seahawks? Simple answer, rush defense. If you were lucky, or unlucky depending on where you stand, to watch the Thursday Night game versus the 49ers, this was overly evident. Can Julius Jones and Marion Barber III expose this weekend? Will the Cowboys who have favored the pass in recent weeks go out and make a conscious effort to pound the ball up the gut of the soft Seahawk defense?
Matty Hasselbeck Goin Deep
"We're going to take the ball and we're going to score." In retrospect, maybe not the greatest words ever to be uttered by Hasselbeck, but I'm sure that he's watch film of the Saints and the Lions and thinking, give me the ball and I'm going to score. The Cowboys in both games were repeatedly beaten on big plays, and it seemed as if Roy Williams was the player being picked on in each play. If the Hawks can get Alexander in a groove than Hasselbeck's mouth will be watering with gaping opportunities to bomb the ball to Jackson and Branch down the field.
-9
-9, that's not Holmgren's weekend golf score that's the Seahawks seasonal turnover margin. Ya, that's not good, and a negative amount in a playoff game typically amounts to a teams doom. The Seahawks at the very least must maintain control of the ball and not put their defense in scenarios where they will have an immensely difficult time succeeding.
The Pick
A difficult game to predict with both teams being overly inconsistant throughout the season but as a past witness of the powers of Qwest field I'm going with the Seahawks who by now will have more than likely shaken off the rust which accumulated during the weeks both Hasselbeck and Alexander sat out. I would expect a high scoring game the way the two defenses have played as of late. And boy oh boy can I not wait to hear some fun postgame quotes from Billy and his best bud T.O.
