The Big 5 College Football Games of Week 4

And this week of college football is pretty much mediocre. Outside of the Hokie-Hurricane game I'm really not terribly interested in any of these games. There are a handful of games that should be entertaining, but nothing is a can't miss.

5. Illinois Fighting Illini at Ohio State Buckeyes
There's a lot of important conference games this week, but the battle of Juice v. Pryor intrigues me. The Zookers were embarrassed by Mizzou in the opener and have only played one massive cupcake since so thoughts on whether they will compete for the Big 10 title this year or not currently do not look promising. A win in the Shoe by the Juice would certainly change that around. The Pick: Ohio State by 10

4. Texas Tech Red Raiders at Houston Cougars
Beating Okie State puts Houston on the BCS spoiler watch. This weekend they host Texas Tech whom just lost to rival Texas. If Houston could beat Texas Tech they could lay claim to the Big 12 South and with a sweep of Conference USA would enjoy a nice trip to prime time in January. The Pick: Texas Tech 14

3. Iowa Hawkeyes at Penn State Nittany Lions
I bet Iowa isn't any good, but at least Penn State has to play a mediocre Big 10 team this week instead of a bottom feeding Big East team. That's a step in the right direction. The Pick: JoePas by 13

2. Ole Miss Rebels at South Carolina Gamecocks
Why is this the 2nd biggest game of the weekend? Well Ole Miss is a "Top 5" team, and they have yet to play anybody worth more than 2 cents. This weekend they get their first taste of the SEC with a trip to Spurrier-land. This is their first opportunity to let anybody know if they are worth a damn or not. The Pick: Ole Miss by 10.

1.Miami Hurricanes at Virginia Tech Hokies
The Hurricanes are looking to lay claim to a top 5 spot in the polls and ACC Supremacy with a win in Blacksburg. Meanwhile the Hokies are looking to start off their ACC schedule right after falling to Bama and barely scraping by the black shirts. Do you believe Miami is back, or do you think the Hokies will once again hold down their role as ACC Orange Bowl rep. The Pick: Hokies by 3.

Lou Holtz is the Homer / Annoyingly Delusional

As my buddy Joe and I always joke, if Notre Dame was suiting up against an all Jesus team, aka a team made up of 55 Sons of God, Lou Holtz would probably still pick Notre Dame to win by a touchdown. So of course this weekend when I'm watching Sportscenter and they have him and fellow old man Corso making predictions, Lou picks ND to beat Michigan. Not that big of a deal, Michigan is a big question mark this year, but of course than Lou says that Notre Dame will win 11 games this year. This is the same Notre Dame that lost to a service academy last year. And just when you thought the douchy homerism was going to end ESPN asks which BCS school is going to be the biggest surprise team in the country. Any guesses to whom it was? I'll give you a clue it was another team he coached. If you guessed South Carolina you would be a winner. Next up on Lou's prediction watch, the Jets win the Superbowl, NC St. wins the ACC, Arkansas dominates the SEC West, Minnesota wins the Big...

Guest Post: Thoughts on Sabathia Signing

I asked Grutt what his thoughts were on the Sabathia signing and I thought his response pretty much nailed it. So here it is. I don’t know. Every year I get a little more disenchanted with baseball. Yea, it’s great we signed the top pitching free agent. But we were supposed to. No team was even in the ballpark of the Yankees offer yet they still needed to jump from the already ridiculous price of $140 million to $160 million to close the deal. Now I hear we are going to sign more pitchers who will also get large contracts and the position player gaps are still glaring. Each new, large contract just adds to the feeling that the Yanks are supposed to win it all. “I think we have a good chance this year.” That is a lost feeling. If they don’t win I’ll wonder why, like there has to be some other reason besides that it’s a sport you can never predict how things will work out and some years just aren’t yours to be won. If they win I will be pleasantly smug. It gets a little more...
