Blogpoll Roundtable Week 3

This weeks blogpoll roundtable is brought to you by CGB.

1. Which freshman impressed you more last weekend: the California dream Matt Barkley who quarterbacked USC over tOSU or white lightening Tate Forcier who slashed through Notre Dame? Which one would you like to have on your team? Feel free to write in another worth candidate.
As much as I would like to say Forcier was more impressive as he was more responsible for points put on the board this weekend, Barkley won in the SHoe which a Michigan Quarterback hasn't done in seemingly this millenia. When Forcier does that then maybe he bumps past Barkley, but for now Ohio State > Notre Dame.

As for who I'd want on UConn... umm either would be nice.

2. Let’s play a game of pretend the unthinkable happened. Commissioner __________ of your conference has been forced to resign after he was caught canoodling with some harlots. Great news, you’ve been chosen to succeed him. To make your mark you decide to make a big change. What is it going to be?
Hmm what to do with the Big East. Right now the Big East has to get its ass in gear simply in order to justify their spot as a BCS conference over the Mountain West. To do so, I think its time they expand and get another big player to even out their conference numbers. Central Florida seems like a natural fit for the Big East and has shown some ability to recruit and be competitive in the Big East.

3. This week the quality of games is kicked up a gear. Other than your own, which game are you most looking forward to?
I know this may be an odd choice, especially given the fact I likely won't be able to watch it, but if I could watch just one game this weekend it would be USC at Washington. Washington this season has already shown that they can be competitive at home against a solid team in their 8 point loss to LSU. USC is coming off their biggest OOC win of the year but has proven in the past that they can be susceptible of the shocking upset. I have a sneaking suspicion that this is going to be a close game and a headache for Pete Carroll.

4. What mascot and/or tradition would you thieve from another school if it was socially acceptable.
Hmm... I think Uconn could really use a winning tradition, like say USC's, Michigan's, Florida's, Penn State's, etc. etc. Something a little extra that convinces good recruits to attend UConn.

Just a reminder, I masquerade as UConn fan for the blogpoll

Lou Holtz is the Homer / Annoyingly Delusional

As my buddy Joe and I always joke, if Notre Dame was suiting up against an all Jesus team, aka a team made up of 55 Sons of God, Lou Holtz would probably still pick Notre Dame to win by a touchdown. So of course this weekend when I'm watching Sportscenter and they have him and fellow old man Corso making predictions, Lou picks ND to beat Michigan. Not that big of a deal, Michigan is a big question mark this year, but of course than Lou says that Notre Dame will win 11 games this year. This is the same Notre Dame that lost to a service academy last year. And just when you thought the douchy homerism was going to end ESPN asks which BCS school is going to be the biggest surprise team in the country. Any guesses to whom it was? I'll give you a clue it was another team he coached. If you guessed South Carolina you would be a winner. Next up on Lou's prediction watch, the Jets win the Superbowl, NC St. wins the ACC, Arkansas dominates the SEC West, Minnesota wins the Big...

Guest Post: Thoughts on Sabathia Signing

I asked Grutt what his thoughts were on the Sabathia signing and I thought his response pretty much nailed it. So here it is. I don’t know. Every year I get a little more disenchanted with baseball. Yea, it’s great we signed the top pitching free agent. But we were supposed to. No team was even in the ballpark of the Yankees offer yet they still needed to jump from the already ridiculous price of $140 million to $160 million to close the deal. Now I hear we are going to sign more pitchers who will also get large contracts and the position player gaps are still glaring. Each new, large contract just adds to the feeling that the Yanks are supposed to win it all. “I think we have a good chance this year.” That is a lost feeling. If they don’t win I’ll wonder why, like there has to be some other reason besides that it’s a sport you can never predict how things will work out and some years just aren’t yours to be won. If they win I will be pleasantly smug. It gets a little more...
