The Most Unbreakable Record in All of Sports

While there are many records which are incredibly inconceivable to be broken such as Wilt's 27 rebounds per game in a season, Ripken's streak, Dimaggio's 56 games, Cy Young 511 wins, etc. There is one that is far and away the most unbreakable record in American Sports

749 Complete Games

Yes, Cy Young threw 749 complete games in his career. Ok to put this in prospectus I'm going to break this down a little bit.

A) There are only 162 games in a Major League Season. A Pitcher would have to start and complete every game for 4 seasons and 101 in the 5th season. And We know that isn't going to happen.

B) The Leader in baseball last season for complete games were Chris Carpenter and Dontrelle Willis at 7 games a piece. At that pace they would only need to pitch for 107 seasons, get out those chriogenic freezers. Dontrelle's gonna be great in 2111.

C) Its been 7 years since Randy Johnson was the last pitcher to throw double digit complete games in a season and 20 years since Fernando Valenzuela threw 20 complete games.

D) Only three pitchers in the history of Major League Baseball (Nolan Ryan, Don Sutton, and Cy Young himself) have started over 749 games in their careers. Roger Clemens has pitched in baseball since 1984 and has only amassed 671 starts to this date.

E) At the rate of 33 starts a season, the typical amount, a starter would have to get a complete game in every start for a little bit more than 22 1/2 seasons.

Don't worry Cy this record is and will be firmly entrenched in your lap for eternity.

Numbers On Steroids: Bret Boone

Numbers on Steroids is a look at baseball players during the 90s to see if anything screams out at you. Mr. Boone was once the best power hitting second baseman in the league. How questionable was his success? Averages Say: Why the extra plateu in his mid 30s? At Bats Per Home Run Says: Lowest at Bats Per Home Runs at 37? Hmm.... Explaining It Away Yeak, this one is tough. Umm, late bloomer? He showed potential power early in his career and he just liked playing in Seattle a lot more than everywhere else? And umm, his career was kind of like a running backs in that it just all of a sudden fell off the map? Any of these convincing you? The Verdict Guy never hits more than 24 home runs in a season and then in his age 32 season he hits 37? And in SafeCo a pitchers park to boot? And he follows that up with 24, 35, 24 homer years still at SafeCo? And then he completely falls off the map in 2005 never to be heard from again? We've got a Screamer... Man Get Big Muscles In 30s. Hm...
