Kerry Rhodes for the Pro Bowl

Every year as a Jet fan I get on the bandwagon of a single Jet for the Pro Bowl one that is completely deserving having watched them for the whole season but most likely is falling under the radar because he might not be known around the country or in many situations the Jets are too bad for anyone to care. Last year Jonathon Vilma was my man, and he ended up getting in as an injury replacement. This year there are a few candidates that I think are deserving Center Nick Mangold and Kick Returner Justin Miller but my man for 2006 is Free Safety Kerry Rhodes. Kerry Rhodes has been the constant in the Jets defense this year, and has made enormous plays along the way. While Vilma is still their most talented defensive player it took him awhile to truly get into his comfort zone with the new 3-4 scheme. Kerry on the other hand has been in a groove since week 1.

AFC Rankings for Safeties

1st in Sacks
1st in Forced Fumbles
Tied for 3rd in Intereceptions
2nd in Tackles

Sometimes stats are decieving and come in situations where they are not necessarily needed. Kerry Rhodes's however have come in very crucial moments of the game. Versus the Bills early in the season he sacked Losman twice forcing two fumbles one which was brought back for a touchdown, without his play the Jets lose that game. Kerry had a big fumble recovery in the 17-14 win against the Patriots which swung the momentum back to the Jets. Two of his other ints came in single touchdown wins against the Lions and Titans respectively. When Kerry makes big plays the Jets win.

Numbers On Steroids: Bret Boone

Numbers on Steroids is a look at baseball players during the 90s to see if anything screams out at you. Mr. Boone was once the best power hitting second baseman in the league. How questionable was his success? Averages Say: Why the extra plateu in his mid 30s? At Bats Per Home Run Says: Lowest at Bats Per Home Runs at 37? Hmm.... Explaining It Away Yeak, this one is tough. Umm, late bloomer? He showed potential power early in his career and he just liked playing in Seattle a lot more than everywhere else? And umm, his career was kind of like a running backs in that it just all of a sudden fell off the map? Any of these convincing you? The Verdict Guy never hits more than 24 home runs in a season and then in his age 32 season he hits 37? And in SafeCo a pitchers park to boot? And he follows that up with 24, 35, 24 homer years still at SafeCo? And then he completely falls off the map in 2005 never to be heard from again? We've got a Screamer... Man Get Big Muscles In 30s. Hm...
