Wallace Matthews You Are On Notice for Charges of Lunacy

Time to bust out the FJM format again, this time on a Newsday columnist that I think is just trying to write something preposterous . Thursday, the Yankees were one victory away away from a triumphant return to the World Series. Friday, they are two losses removed from the worst postseason collapse in their history. Yes, this would be worse than coughing up a 3-0 lead to the Red Sox in 2004. Well now that statement is just baffling. 3-0 to 3-1. The rival Red Sox or the nemesis Angels. Ok we'll give him a chance to explain, even though he has zero argument here. And trust me, it could happen a lot easier than you think. Last night's 7-6 loss to the Angels, who suddenly seem to have remembered that their strategy of creating havoc on the basepaths only works if they in fact get on base, not only cut the Yankees' lead in the ALCS to 3-2. What Havoc exactly did the Angels create on the basepaths last night? 1st) Walk, Double, Single, Double, Single. No steals, just straigh...

The Revis Effect Weeks 1-6

In an attempt to highlight one of the few bright spots of the Jets current 3-3 record I bring to you the Revis effect. Here we chronicle just what the #1 wide receivers of the Jet opponents did when matched up with Darrelle Revis in comparison to what they have done for the remainder of the season. Throughout the season Revis have faced some of the best wideouts in the league (Moss, Colston and Johnson) and has yet to allow a single receiver to catch more than 4 passes on him. In addition the only time he allowed a #1 wideout to score a touchdown was a deep strike to Ted Ginn of all people in their defensive debacle loss to the Dolphins. In 28 games not covered by Revis these wideouts have a total of 14 touchdowns. When looking at the average difference per game, or The Revis Effect, #1 wideouts are averaging 1.2+ less receptions, 30+ less yards, and .33 less touchdowns against Revis than in a normal game. The Revis Effect would look even more powerful if you just take the three powe...

Week 7 NFL Pick Suggestions

3-2 last week which is better than 2-3 but still not that fantastic. 1. New England Patriots (-14 1/2) vs. Tampa Bay Bucs (in London) Tennessee has all but packed their bags and set up their January tee times, so the Pats 59-0 victory was a bit bloated last week. But the Bucs are doing the same thing, so why not just ride the Brady-Moss-Welker train one more time. 2. Indianapolis Colts (-13 1/2) at St. Louis Rams Two touchdowns is a lot to give up, but the Rams are turrible. Bob Sanders is back so the Colts defense should be able to hold St. Louis to their typical 6 points. Peyton Manning will then take care of the rest. An as an addition the Colts are coming off a bye week. This game reeks 30 point victory. 3. Houston Texans (-3 1/2) vs. San Francisco 49ers The Niners aren't the same without Gore pounding the rock, meanwhile the Texans led by Matt Schaub are throwing up 28 points a game. I think the Texans will win this one something like 27-20. 4. Atlanta Falcons (+3.5) at...

Degrees of Loss Separation: UConn> West Virginia

The Degrees of Loss Separation is a simple concept, I go out and find a highly rated team with some losses playing against a crappy team with lots of losses. Next I find a chain of losses which proves beyond a shadow of a doubt (not at all) that the underdog is going to pull the major upset and storm the field. The Final Outcome is calculated simply: Add up the scores of the losers, add up the scores of the winners in the degrees of loss separation and divide both by the # of degrees. The Game: Connecticut Huskies vs. West Virginia Mountaineers This Degrees of Loss Separation is in honor of the recently deceased Jasper Howard. By now you must know that he was stabbed to death outside a UConn building on the night of a school dance. I think we can all agree that this must be an incredibly difficult time for the Huskies and that unless you are from West Virginia you will be pulling for them this weekend. 10º of Loss Separation : UConn > Louisville > Southern Miss > Memphis ...

DiMaggio in the Outfield

A certain Angels blog has been crying ludicrous conspiracy theories over the past few days. The audacity of these theories was chronicled well this morning by friends of the blog, Fack Youk . What this Angels blog and Fack Youk missed was the obvious conspiracy, the Yankees are winning on the back of DiMaggio in the Outfield.
