I don't know what the heck this means in relationship to Curtis Martin but the Jets just traded backup cornerback Derrick Strait to the Cleveland Browns for Lee Suggs.
Here's my thoughts:
Derrick Strait is nothing more than a backup cornerback at best nickelback so not a huge blow to the defense there.
Lee Suggs is not good, and was carried in college by the fact that he played with Michael Vick, which would have made any running back look terrific because of the fear of the Vick rush.
If the Jets were really that done on Curtis Martin playing this year I think they would have tried to go out and get someone who was definitively a starting caliber running back. Suggs is not that. He could be decent in a platoon with Blaylock and Houston but he's not going to be a #1 running back. I just think this says a little negative on Curtis but I would decipher this trade as proof positive that Curtis is done.
Mangini's secretive nature is a little too extreme for my liking, the fact he said Erik Coleman was sick and that's why he wasn't practicing and then come to find out he has an appendectemy, ya thats not sick. Its preseason teams will figure out come week 1 whether or not they should prepare for Curtis in the backfield please let me the Jet fan know that either Curtis is done or Curtis might not be ready for the opening week. Why so secret? Kind of annoying but if he gets results than who can complain.
