Hey Boner, Shut Up

Good ole loudmouth Papelbon shot off yesterday and said that if he was the manager of the team than he would be closer. Way to be modest. Regardless of the obvious disrespect to Mariano, he hasn't even been a top 3 closer in the AL this year.

Mariano is 23 for 23 in save opportunities, and is 4.3 with a 1.06 ERA.

K-Rod is 38-41 in save opportunities and is 0-2 with a 2.36 ERA.

Joe Nathan is 27 for 29 in save opportunities and is 0-0 with a 1.13 ERA.

And finally Papelbon is 28 for 32 in save opportunities and is 3-3 with a 2.42 ERA.

Furthermore, Papelbon went on to say he deserved the role because of the Sox World Series victory. Mo does have 4 rings and K-Rod was the best pitcher on the Angels when they won the World Series, so that point is pretty mute as well.

Regardless, it's pretty apparent that Mo will be in the game in the 9th inning, however I'm sure if Terry Francona really really wanted to fuel the fire of the rivalry there would be no better way than throwing out Mo in the 6th inning in relief and closing with PapelBoner.

The Verdict Guy never hits more than 24 home runs in a season and then in his age 32 season he hits 37? And in SafeCo a pitchers park to boot? And he follows that up with 24, 35, 24 homer years still at SafeCo? And then he completely falls off the map in 2005 never to be heard from again? We've got a Screamer... Man Get Big Muscles In 30s. Hm...

Numbers On Steroids: Mickey Mantle

Numbers on Steroids is a look at baseball players during the 90s to see if anything screams out at you. This week it's throwing a curve ball and looking at All Time Great Yankees. Players that we know did not take steroids to see if this gives a defense to any of the players 'convicted' by Numbers on Steroids. First would be the incredible leap he took from his first year in the big leagues to his first MVP season in 1956. His batting average jumped 50 points.
