2010 MLB Postseason Predictions

Division Series

Yankees over Twins in 4... The Yankees always beat the Twins and even with their pitching being arguably the worst in the AL CC should pick up two Ws and they will squeak by in one of the Pettitte Hughes starts.

Rangers over Rays in 5... I love David Price, but frankly I've seen postseason Cliff Lee and I trust postseason Cliff Lee. In addition Shields has been less then stellar this season and the Rays offense has not hit the ball the past two weeks.

Giants over Braves in 4... The West Coast G-Men will have too much starting pitching over the injured Braves offense. The games will likely be like 3-2 showdowns but the Giants should be able to take the series.

Phillies over Reds in 4... Frankly I'm being generous giving the Reds a W in this series. The Reds had a great season but the Phillies have set themselves up to dominate a best of 5 series.

Championship Series

Rangers over Yankees in 7... Perhaps I should have confidence in the Yankees like I did in the preseason and like I did last year. Problem is I can't trust any of their pitchers past CC whom will likely not be available to pitch 3 games, and that means whomever pitches game 4 for the Yankees is almost an assured loss. IN addition the Yankees CAN NOT hit lefties this year and Cliff Lee & CJ Wilson have been two of MLBs best this year.

Phillies over Giants in 6... The pitching will be there for both teams but the obvious advantage in offense goes to the Phillies who should be able to scratch and claw their way to a series W.

World Series

Phillies over Rangers in 6... The Phillies went from a team in 08 who had 1 stud starter in Cole Hamels to last year in which they had one stud in Cliff Lee and a non dependable Cole Hamels to this year where they now have three stud pitchers who have been nearly untouchable the past two months. The Phillies are the odds on favorite to win the World Series for the 2nd time in three years and for good reason. They've gone from an offense first team to a team with a stellar offense and the best rotation in baseball. If they don't win the World Series it will be and should be a big disappointment in the city of brotherly love.

Lou Holtz is the Homer / Annoyingly Delusional

As my buddy Joe and I always joke, if Notre Dame was suiting up against an all Jesus team, aka a team made up of 55 Sons of God, Lou Holtz would probably still pick Notre Dame to win by a touchdown. So of course this weekend when I'm watching Sportscenter and they have him and fellow old man Corso making predictions, Lou picks ND to beat Michigan. Not that big of a deal, Michigan is a big question mark this year, but of course than Lou says that Notre Dame will win 11 games this year. This is the same Notre Dame that lost to a service academy last year. And just when you thought the douchy homerism was going to end ESPN asks which BCS school is going to be the biggest surprise team in the country. Any guesses to whom it was? I'll give you a clue it was another team he coached. If you guessed South Carolina you would be a winner. Next up on Lou's prediction watch, the Jets win the Superbowl, NC St. wins the ACC, Arkansas dominates the SEC West, Minnesota wins the Big...

Guest Post: Thoughts on Sabathia Signing

I asked Grutt what his thoughts were on the Sabathia signing and I thought his response pretty much nailed it. So here it is. I don’t know. Every year I get a little more disenchanted with baseball. Yea, it’s great we signed the top pitching free agent. But we were supposed to. No team was even in the ballpark of the Yankees offer yet they still needed to jump from the already ridiculous price of $140 million to $160 million to close the deal. Now I hear we are going to sign more pitchers who will also get large contracts and the position player gaps are still glaring. Each new, large contract just adds to the feeling that the Yanks are supposed to win it all. “I think we have a good chance this year.” That is a lost feeling. If they don’t win I’ll wonder why, like there has to be some other reason besides that it’s a sport you can never predict how things will work out and some years just aren’t yours to be won. If they win I will be pleasantly smug. It gets a little more...
