Blogpoll Week 8

Before you yell and say where is so and so team, please read my polling philosophy and then yell afterwards.

~King of the SEC is back at #1. With Oklahoma picking up an L in Columbus, the Auburn Tigers have moved quite nicely into the top spot. Cam Newton is now the Heisman front runner and the Auburn Tigers are poised for one of the biggest Iron Bowls in history. The Tigers have games at Ole Miss and home versus Chattanooga and Georgia left on the schedule. If they can win those games they will head into Tuscaloosa the #1 team in the country.

~Oregon doesn't yet have the massive schedule strength but there victories are oh so pretty. A trip to the Coliseum could mark doom even if the Trojans are in a "down" year.

~Positioning TCU, Utah and Boise are all difficult propositions for me. Boise has wins over VT (n) and Oregon St. TCU has victories at Oregon St. and home versus Baylor and Air Force. Utah knocked off Pitt. They are currently ranked in that order but I could foresee a time where I give TCU the edge over Boise.

~Say Alabama throttles Auburn in the Iron Bowl and enacts a vengeful beatdown on South Carolina in the SEC title game, what are the odds they leapfrog Boise St.?

~If Michigan St. goes undefeated (at Iowa this weekend being their biggest road block) and do not make the National title game, will the Big Ten shift their stance on a playoff?

Numbers On Steroids: Bret Boone

Numbers on Steroids is a look at baseball players during the 90s to see if anything screams out at you. Mr. Boone was once the best power hitting second baseman in the league. How questionable was his success? Averages Say: Why the extra plateu in his mid 30s? At Bats Per Home Run Says: Lowest at Bats Per Home Runs at 37? Hmm.... Explaining It Away Yeak, this one is tough. Umm, late bloomer? He showed potential power early in his career and he just liked playing in Seattle a lot more than everywhere else? And umm, his career was kind of like a running backs in that it just all of a sudden fell off the map? Any of these convincing you? The Verdict Guy never hits more than 24 home runs in a season and then in his age 32 season he hits 37? And in SafeCo a pitchers park to boot? And he follows that up with 24, 35, 24 homer years still at SafeCo? And then he completely falls off the map in 2005 never to be heard from again? We've got a Screamer... Man Get Big Muscles In 30s. Hm...
