Breakin it Down: G-Men vs. Eagles

When looking at this game it seems like all the storylines surround the Giants even with the Eagles emerging from the dead midseason behind the great play from Jeff Garcia. The Eagles are just overshadowed by the Giants who have been the most entertaining Soap Opera in all of NYC during this fall and winter.

The Eli Manning Face

If Eli gets one thing from his brother its the fact that he also has a distinct face different from anyone in the NFL. His face has the similar arms up in the air, shoulders hunched down, but instead of a look of anger and disappointment that typical runs down Peyton's face, Eli shows a look of Uh I'm Pretty Dumb I think. It's just a look of a little child after mommy told him he couldn't have that lollipop he really wanted. A look that Giant fans love so much.

Bringing the Heat

Trent Cole summed it up best, bring the heat, rattle Eli, and you will see that beautiful Eli Manning face. And Trent has some experience with finding an Eli Manning pass in his arms, he was the linebacker who put the nail in the coffin by returning a tipped Eli pass for a touchdown in the last Eagles Giants matchup. Trent Cole also knows what it feels like to drop Eli, as he had 2 of the Eagles 8 sacks in their first matchup of the season. If the Eagles can replicate either the 8 sacks of the first game or their 4 forced turnovers of their second matchup they should be in excellent position to travel to New Orleans next week.

Tom Coughlin Face

Oh the Tom Coughlin look of frustration with a twist of complete lack of control. The look that has Giants fans around the Tri-State area calling for his firing, to the point where some almost hope the Giants lose to ensure he gets canned. And honestly, I can't blame them, Coughlin never looks like he's in control of the team or his emotions on the sideline, his team more than any other has no problem dropping him or other teammates under the bus, and it just doesn't seem like his "disciplinary" tactics are working at. At this point it's very debatable which face is more entertaining, however I'll lean towards the Eli face because that almost always provides the Tom Coughlin face as well.

Tiki's Curtain Call

Tiki certainly looks like a battered and bruised player who desperately should retire in order to avoid any of the chronic pain that several running backs of earlier generations have fallen to. Oh, you say he just set his career high for rushing yards in what was his final regular season game? Um, ok, sure you want to retire and work on 20/20 and Good Morning America. You really want to be that lame? You're pushing me towards wanting you to go out with an embarrassing performance. 31 and coming off the greatest three seasons of your career and you'd rather chill with Barbara Walters and Diane Sawyer than try to win a Superbowl. Talking about this is making me want to vomit.

Rise from the Dead

Everyone outside of Philly saw Donovan go down against the Titans and had the Eagles playoff grave dug before the start of the next week. Hell what am I talking about, people in Philly probably dug that grave faster than anybody else. But out of the ashes emerged Jeff Garcia, playing intelligent ball, fighting through the hilarious boos of the fans because they wanted to see AJ Feeley, and leading the Eagles to victory after victory to the tune of a 10-6 record and the hottest team in the NFC.

The Pick

I haven't seen anything in the past two months of the season which would make me believe that Eli will come out and play a turnover free solid game. With Eli struggling the Eagles should be able to focus on stuffing Tiki and the running game and I would be very surprised if the Giants put up more than 21 points. The Eagles are the hottest team in the NFC and I firmly expect Garcia to play well and minimize mistakes to the tune of an Iggles victory.

Numbers On Steroids: Bret Boone

Numbers on Steroids is a look at baseball players during the 90s to see if anything screams out at you. Mr. Boone was once the best power hitting second baseman in the league. How questionable was his success? Averages Say: Why the extra plateu in his mid 30s? At Bats Per Home Run Says: Lowest at Bats Per Home Runs at 37? Hmm.... Explaining It Away Yeak, this one is tough. Umm, late bloomer? He showed potential power early in his career and he just liked playing in Seattle a lot more than everywhere else? And umm, his career was kind of like a running backs in that it just all of a sudden fell off the map? Any of these convincing you? The Verdict Guy never hits more than 24 home runs in a season and then in his age 32 season he hits 37? And in SafeCo a pitchers park to boot? And he follows that up with 24, 35, 24 homer years still at SafeCo? And then he completely falls off the map in 2005 never to be heard from again? We've got a Screamer... Man Get Big Muscles In 30s. Hm...
