Droppin' Minimal Knowledge on the Championship Game

So who else is on a Wildcard Weekend hangover? Anyway the games on tonight so I'll drop some minimal knowledge.

Big 10 vs. SEC

The Big 10 may have struggled in their bowl games but they did have both of their bowl victories come in matchups on New Years day versus the SEC, with Penn St. knocking off the Pastel Orange Warriors and the Badgers knocking off the QBless Razorbacks. What does that say for Ohio St. Chances? Nothing, hell they didn't even play the Badgers.

Heisman Jinx

To me not a big deal. Leinart dominated the championship game two years ago after winning the Heisman, I don't expedct Big Game Troy Smith to be affected at all. Apparently he hasn't missed more than a day of practice either. I repeat this is a complete non-factor.

Chris Leak Brain Fart

So over under on the amount of bonehead plays Chris Leak makes. 2 sound like a good number? He seemingly always makes a play which is extremely detrimental to the Gators chances at victory, think SEC Title Game Shovel Pass directly into the gut of a Razorback D-Lineman to the house. If Chris Leak doesn't commit a turnover the Gators have an excellent chance of winning this game, chances Leak does not commit a turnover? Minimal.

Tim Tebow Factor

I say non-factor. I doubt he comes in and does anything that tricks the Buckeyes or beats them on anything huge. Sure he gives the Gators a completely different look on offense and a nice change of pace, but I just don't see that having any dramatic influence on the game.

Ohio St. Receivers

Ted Ginn may get all the hype for his blazing speed but Anthony Gonzalez is a more reliable target and makes just as many big plays as Ginn. Will the Gators be able to do what no other team has done in the past two years and stop Ginn and Gonzo from going crazy in the secondary?

Blowout Notion

What gives people the idea that the Buckeyes are just going to blow out the Gators? What exactly have they done this season that was so impressive? They moved the ball on the Wolverines, so did the Trojans with ease. They beat the Longhorns in Austin, so did A&M and did you see how badly they were dismantled by Cal. They beat Penn St., so did everybody else. I'm not saying they're not a very good team, but they've done nothing this season to firmly cement themselves as an unstoppable juggernaut that will plow over a mighty SEC team.

Coaching Battle

Neither of these guys will be out coached. Tressel has the best pedigree of any coach in the NCAA as I've already wrote about, and Urban Meyer has won at every program he's been to, and very quickly. It will be very interesting to watch what kind of whacky trick plays Urban has come up with after a months worth of practicing, if you're not looking forward to some type of reverse flea flicker than you an old school boring person.

Monday Night

Typically I'm footballed out by monday and don't overly care for the monday night football game on ESPN, I have the same feeling today with regards to the National Title game. I'm drained from watching the Jets lose yesterday and watching that classic GMAC bowl between Ohio and Southern Miss last night. There's just no buzz for this the biggest college game of the year, everyone is calling up the radio shows wanting to talk about Romo, or the NYC teams decline, firing Coughlin, etc. Not much about the Buckeyes Gators. The NCAA really blew it with the date of this game and the whole move to FOX in general.

51 Days

Read this in Peter King's article, the Eagles have played 8 games since the last time the Buckeyes played. How is this a fair system to decide the best team in the country? How could you expect the Buckeyes to come out guns blazing? Did you watch any of the Rose Bowl to see how poorly the Wolverines played after their lengthy delay? Maybe the Big 10 should reasses their desire to finish before thanksgiving.

Prediction from the Heavens

Very similarly to the Jet Pat game of yesterday there is not a drastic difference in talent levels on either of these teams except at one single position, which just happens to be the most important position on the football field. Smith will outshine Leak and that's the difference.

Ohio St. 17 Florida 13

Lou Holtz is the Homer / Annoyingly Delusional

As my buddy Joe and I always joke, if Notre Dame was suiting up against an all Jesus team, aka a team made up of 55 Sons of God, Lou Holtz would probably still pick Notre Dame to win by a touchdown. So of course this weekend when I'm watching Sportscenter and they have him and fellow old man Corso making predictions, Lou picks ND to beat Michigan. Not that big of a deal, Michigan is a big question mark this year, but of course than Lou says that Notre Dame will win 11 games this year. This is the same Notre Dame that lost to a service academy last year. And just when you thought the douchy homerism was going to end ESPN asks which BCS school is going to be the biggest surprise team in the country. Any guesses to whom it was? I'll give you a clue it was another team he coached. If you guessed South Carolina you would be a winner. Next up on Lou's prediction watch, the Jets win the Superbowl, NC St. wins the ACC, Arkansas dominates the SEC West, Minnesota wins the Big

Ranking the New York Jets Historical Helmets

There's no way you can't go with the Helmet they won the Super Bowl in. You just can't. Next, I really don't understand why they don't where the helmet with the Jet as their throwback uniforms. That helmet is awesome. Then I'm going with the Helmets from the 80s because it's the classic feel and the white face mask is 10 times better than the black one. And the rankings continue until you get to... The Titans Helmet. I hate everything about those Titan uniforms. The Helmets are boring and the colors are GOD awful. Navy blue and Mustard? What the hell is that. Disgusting. If they wore those unis when I was a kid I'd probably be a Giant fan, and be much happier with my life in football.
