The Big 5 College Football Games of the Weekend

5. Washington Huskies vs. Southern Cal Trojans in LA

I'm just as surprised as everyone else that the Huskies are 4-1, while I'm not going to pretend that I think Willingham can pull off a victory in LA, I'm just saying that there's a small chance considering how poorly the Trojans have played even in winning these past few weeks. The Pick: Trojans by double digits, eventually the Trojans will wake up from their slumber I think it starts now.

4. Oregon Ducks vs. California Bears in Berkeley

Here's the battle ground to see who will challenge USC for Pac 10 supremacy. The Bears seem to be back in a groove since their beatdown on Rocky Top, while the Ducks have played well since their sudo win against the Sooners. The Pick: Oregon sneaks out another close one on the legs and arm of Dixon.

3. The Red River Shootout: Texas Longhorns vs. Oklahoma Sooners

Usually the most important game of the weekend they are playing it in, this year however it is not even the 2nd. Why? Zero National title implications. Neither Oklahoma nor Texas have a legitimate shot of making the title game even if they run through the remainder of their games. Neither has the schedule strength, to qualify as the best 1 loss team in the country. The Pick: I'm going with Texas with little confidence as I seriously wonder if Mack Brown can beat Oklahoma without Vince Young

1A. Lousiana State Tigers vs. Florida Gators in Gainesville

Really little differentiating the two SEC games in importance. Florida vs. LSU may have slightly more important National Title implications, but UT vs. UGA is more important to the SEC East totum pole. LSU needs to prove it can score against a good defense as their scoring ineptitude vs. Auburn is not going to cut it against Urban Myers squad. I don't think Florida will have a big hiccup at home this year I think they'll wait to lay an egg in Auburn. The Pick: Florida in a slugfest by 6

1. Tennessee Volunteers vs. Georgia Bulldogs in Athens

UGA needs this game to keep pace with Florida and Tennessee needs to avoid being swept by their SEC East competetion. Here's the issue that lies with Georgia, they're rushing their QB Joe Terapolish back into the fire this week. While it's probably better than the flaming Cox they've been throwing out there from week to week, I don't think he gets the job done. The Pick: Tennessee has something to prove they take it by double digs

Lou Holtz is the Homer / Annoyingly Delusional

As my buddy Joe and I always joke, if Notre Dame was suiting up against an all Jesus team, aka a team made up of 55 Sons of God, Lou Holtz would probably still pick Notre Dame to win by a touchdown. So of course this weekend when I'm watching Sportscenter and they have him and fellow old man Corso making predictions, Lou picks ND to beat Michigan. Not that big of a deal, Michigan is a big question mark this year, but of course than Lou says that Notre Dame will win 11 games this year. This is the same Notre Dame that lost to a service academy last year. And just when you thought the douchy homerism was going to end ESPN asks which BCS school is going to be the biggest surprise team in the country. Any guesses to whom it was? I'll give you a clue it was another team he coached. If you guessed South Carolina you would be a winner. Next up on Lou's prediction watch, the Jets win the Superbowl, NC St. wins the ACC, Arkansas dominates the SEC West, Minnesota wins the Big...

Guest Post: Thoughts on Sabathia Signing

I asked Grutt what his thoughts were on the Sabathia signing and I thought his response pretty much nailed it. So here it is. I don’t know. Every year I get a little more disenchanted with baseball. Yea, it’s great we signed the top pitching free agent. But we were supposed to. No team was even in the ballpark of the Yankees offer yet they still needed to jump from the already ridiculous price of $140 million to $160 million to close the deal. Now I hear we are going to sign more pitchers who will also get large contracts and the position player gaps are still glaring. Each new, large contract just adds to the feeling that the Yanks are supposed to win it all. “I think we have a good chance this year.” That is a lost feeling. If they don’t win I’ll wonder why, like there has to be some other reason besides that it’s a sport you can never predict how things will work out and some years just aren’t yours to be won. If they win I will be pleasantly smug. It gets a little more...
