A Little Playoff Analysis to Chew On

Twins vs. As

~Simply put Torre Hunter took the wrong angle on a sinking line drive that cut more than he thought it would and he had no choice but to dive for it, especially on the fast astro turf as once it gets by you its going to the wall. I've been there before, took the wrong angle on a line drive in the gap against Amity senior year turned a single into a triple. It was unfortunate timing but for those of you that have never played outfield rout running is truly the most important aspect of being a succesful outfielder, get it wrong and your screwed.

~Ron Gardenhire has announced that Johan Santana is going to go on short rest and pitch in game 4 if they get there. Personally, I think this is just a stupid decision. Here's the logic of pitching him Game 4, well if we don't win Game 4 then there will be no Game 5. By that logic why not start Santana everygame. Here's my opinion, you need to win 3 games, give yourself your best chance of winning the games. Why diminish the chance of winning a game with Johan on the mound? He's a 100 pitch pitcher, throw him at full strength in game five, instead of limiting to probably 6 innings in game 4. If you head into game 5 with Boof Bonser on short rest against Barry Zito you have a significantly worse chance of winning that game than you would Carlos Silva or Matt Garza rested against Rich Harden. The object isn't to prolong the series it is to win the series, and by pitching Santana and Bonser on short rest you are increasing your odds to prolong but significantly diminishing your chances of winning. It's a stupid decision.

Mets vs. Dodgers

~JD Drew must not have a brain, thats the only explanation for his stupidity. I mean Kent was out by a step and a half what in the world could have possibly been going on in JD's head, I seriously wish we had a tape recorder up there so we could find out. Apparently the 3rd base coach was quoted as saying that he didn't even see JD Drew because he was watching Kent running towards the plate. So not only did JD Drew not pay attention at all, the 3rd base coach completely failed, the rule is once you wave a player he's done, move on and signal to the next player. So basically its a quick wave then a quick stop. Cost the Dodgers the game.

~I love when fans call up and say things like we can't question a managers decision if they won the game, sure in the end it didn't hurt but the decision of Randolph to hit Mota with the bases loaded 2 outs in a 4-1 is highly questionable. They didn't use Roberto Hernandez yesterday, they could have easily did a double switch with Endy and Floyd hit Endy and put Roberto in Floyds spot in the lineup. In the end it didn't matter but giving up on the bases loaded isn't going to work very often.

~Todays game is the most important game of this series bar none. You go down 2-0 in a 5 game series and you are in deep trouble, so for the Dodgers this is a must win. However if you look at how the rest of this series plays out the Mets have their best pitcher going today so if they lose and are tied 1-1 they need to win 2 games with Trashbag, Oliver Perez and Maine (4 1/3) going. How many games can their lineup bail them out? If this Kuo guy pitches well, and the Mets have troubles against lefties, though I've never seen him pitch, then the Dodgers are officially in the drivers seat.

New York Yankees vs. Detroit Tigers

~Rainouts blow. Verlander is bitching that he warmed up and Mussina didn't, heres a simple fact Justin look across the field, is Mussina warming up? He has to pitch before you is older than you and probably needs to take more time to warm up. Look across the field dumb ass, and stop bitching.

Padres vs. Cards

~On comes the Cards shit show of a rotation. Dreamweaver??? In game two really Dreamweaver, his ERA is enormous and its not one of those eras where its deceiving like he had a few 15 run outings, nope he's consistantly bad. If the Padres lose today they might as well give up on their franchise.

Lou Holtz is the Homer / Annoyingly Delusional

As my buddy Joe and I always joke, if Notre Dame was suiting up against an all Jesus team, aka a team made up of 55 Sons of God, Lou Holtz would probably still pick Notre Dame to win by a touchdown. So of course this weekend when I'm watching Sportscenter and they have him and fellow old man Corso making predictions, Lou picks ND to beat Michigan. Not that big of a deal, Michigan is a big question mark this year, but of course than Lou says that Notre Dame will win 11 games this year. This is the same Notre Dame that lost to a service academy last year. And just when you thought the douchy homerism was going to end ESPN asks which BCS school is going to be the biggest surprise team in the country. Any guesses to whom it was? I'll give you a clue it was another team he coached. If you guessed South Carolina you would be a winner. Next up on Lou's prediction watch, the Jets win the Superbowl, NC St. wins the ACC, Arkansas dominates the SEC West, Minnesota wins the Big

Ranking the New York Jets Historical Helmets

There's no way you can't go with the Helmet they won the Super Bowl in. You just can't. Next, I really don't understand why they don't where the helmet with the Jet as their throwback uniforms. That helmet is awesome. Then I'm going with the Helmets from the 80s because it's the classic feel and the white face mask is 10 times better than the black one. And the rankings continue until you get to... The Titans Helmet. I hate everything about those Titan uniforms. The Helmets are boring and the colors are GOD awful. Navy blue and Mustard? What the hell is that. Disgusting. If they wore those unis when I was a kid I'd probably be a Giant fan, and be much happier with my life in football.
