Got off to a great start last night with me saying that I didn't think barry Zito was going to lose this in the ALCS, lets see if I can do as bad or worse in the NLDS.
Catcher - Yadier Molina vs. Paul LoDuca
Yadier was a .200 hitter this season meaning up against any catcher in baseball offensive he was basically the worst so obviously the edge goes to LoDuca so naturally Yadier will go out this series and hit .350 with 5 rbis. Advantage: Mets
First Base - Albert Pujols vs. Carlos Delgado
The Best Hitter in baseball has the advantage over any player. Advantage: Cards
Second Base - Ronny Belliard vs. Jose Valentin
Both of these guys are surprised that they are starting for a playoff team. Belliard gets the edge though due to his experience playing second base in comparison to some of the mistakes Jose has made at the position this season.Advantage: Cards
Third Base - Scott Rolen vs. David Wright
Scott Rolen is battling through shoulder issues while David Wright is completely healthy had a very good NLDS and had better numbers throughout the season than Rolen. If Rolen was healthy I'd have to think more about this one, but that's a big questionmark. Advantage: Mets
Shortstop - David Eckstein vs. Jose Reyes
David Eckstein is a little bitch. Advantage: Mets
Left Field - Preston Wilson vs. Endy Chavez
The loinchild of Mookie has some pop. This is closer than some may estimate because Preston is a much bigger name but I'll still go with Mookie's love baby.Advantage: Cards
Center Field - Jim Edmonds vs. Carlos Beltran
Beltran has emerged as the best hitting centerfielder in the game this season while Edmonds is still dizzy from getting concussed a few months ago.Advantage: Mets
Right Field - Juan Encarnacion vs. Shawn Green
This is a gross matchup, and you wonder why people liked the AL better, Encarnacion and Green are past their primes and neither was that great when they were in their primes but I'll go with the power of the Jew. Advantage: Mets
Game 1 & 5 Starter - Jeff Weaver vs. Tom Glavine
A few things about Jeff Weaver, first he got sent to the minors in favor of his brother, then he got designated for assignment, then when he joined the Cards he became the 4th highest paid player on their roster, yes he makes more than Carpenter. I think there's a good chance Dreamweaver wins one of these games but I wouldn't bet my life on it. Advantage: Mets
Game 2 & 6 Starter - Jeff Suppan vs. Joh Maine
I think when looking at the starting pitchers its tough to do a strict comparison without thinking about how either may fare against the others lineup. Here I don't see either pitcher performing particularly well, Suppan is not a good pitcher, and Maine lacked the trust of Willie to pitch through the 4th in game one of the NLDS. In the end I'll give a slight advantage to Maine because he has better stuff. Advantage: Mets
Game 3 & 7 Starter - Chris Carpenter vs. Steve Trashbag
Hmm, trashbag or the reigning Cy Young holder. The Cards in this series just like all season have two things going for them, everyday they have the best player in the game in Pujols and every 5 starts they have a better pitcher going than the other team. If Carpenter loses the Cards have little to no chance.Advantage: Cards
Game 4 Starter - Oliver Perez vs. Jason Marquis
I'm assuming the Cards are going to pitch Jason Marquis instead of moving all their pitchers up on short rest. I could be wrong either way this certainly isn't the game that anyone will be looking forward to, unless you like walks and sloppy baseball. Oliver Perez is a crapshoot he could easily strikeout 10 but he's more likely to walk 7. I'll give the slight advantage to the Cards because Marquis is more consistant and more likely to give his team 5 innings.Advantage: Cards
Bullpen
The Mets bullpen is their strong suit, Willie used the matchups and his bullpen to perfection against the Dodgers. And Braden Looper is on the Cards Advantage: Mets
Bench
The Mets bench is weaker with the possible loss of Floyd. The cards have some weapons on the bench with the rookie Duncan and Scott Spiezio who is a clutch playoff hitter. Advantage: Cards
Head Coach - Tony LaRussa vs. Willie Randolph
Tony LaRussa loves to get to the ALCS and lose its almost clockwork, he'll overthink things and mess up. Advantage: Mets
Conclusion
Ok so the final score on my account is 9-6 Mets so that means that I pick the Mets in 6. With that being said and with my current track record go to the Casino and put money on the Cards.
