NCAA Week 6 Power Rankings

Lots of movement this week after some shocking losses and stellar victories around the country.

1. Ohio State Buckeyes - The gap was closed pretty close during the Ohio St. a week where they slugged Bowling Green but I'll narrowly give them the edge due to the comfort of their two biggest victories as well as the fact that both were on the road.Quality Wins: Penn St., @Texas, @Iowa

2. Florida Gators - The Gators have easily catapaulted themselves into the #2 spot in the country with their solid victory over LSU and deserve a few first place votes from the Southern contingent. The pass play with Tim Tebow was beautiful. Quality Wins: @Rocky Top, Alabama, LSU

3. Michigan Wolverines - Michigan is working comfortably through their Big 10 schedule so far. They need to avoid a let down and take care of business against an overrated Iowa squad in the Big House and then the showdown versus the Buckeyes will take care of itself.Quality Wins: Wisconsin, @ND

4. Tennessee Volunteers - UT gets the biggest jump in the Power Rankings. Sure they have one loss which Louisville and USC do not but they have two blowout victories over two good teams and one which re-entered the Power Rankings this week and a one point loss against an unquestioned top 2 team in the nation in a game they really should have one. Looks like Rocky Top is back after a one year hiatus, now they just need someone to knock off the Gators to get back in the title hunt.Quality Wins: Cal, @UGA

5. Louisville Cardinals - Drop a spot only because the Vols were so impressive this week and their two huge wins outrank the Cards two victories this season. The Cards need to hold the fort before their big clash with West Virginia, who maintains off the power rankings due to the weakest schedule in the country.Quality Wins: @K State, Miami

6. Southern Cal Trojans - The Arkansas victory certainly looks better this week but a 6 point win against the Washington Huskies is giving the Trojans serious questionmarks about what they are going to do during the ND, Cal, Oregon, UCLA stretch of their schedule. Quality Wins: Nebraska, @Arkansas

7. Arkansas Razorbacks: Coming out of nowhere to hold the #7 spot in the rankings. The Razorbacks pulled out a squeeker last week against the Tide, but their dominant win against the Tigers in Auburn ranks as among the top wins thus far during the season. Quality Wins: Alabama, @Auburn Bad Loss: USC

8. California Golden Bears - The Golden Bears with a very important Pac 10 victory and even their beatdown at Rocky Top isn't look quite as bad now that the Vols are on a roll and laying a beatdown against the Bulldogs of Georgia. Quality Wins: Arizona St., Oregon Bad Loss: Rocky Top

9. Notre Dame Fighting Irish- Nighty Night ND's quality victories as MSU and Purdon't really are no longer big name victories, but they still have the win in the Atl to hang their hat on. Quality Wins: Penn St., @GaTechBad Loss: Michigan

10. Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets- Almost had a major letdown after their huge week in Blacksburg. Narrowly stayed in the top 11 over Clemson and the Longhorns of Texas due to I slightly like their win over VaTech more than the Red River Shootout and their loss wasn't a beatdown. Quality Wins: @VaTech

11. Auburn Tigers - A completely unacceptable loss for Tommy and his Tigers. USC dumped on Arkansas in Fayettville and has looked completely vulnerable since, and then Arkansas goes into Auburn and knocks around the #2 team in the country. Just poor. Hang on by a thread over Clemson on the basis of their LSU victory and the fact that the Clemson win over FSU is slightly diminished. Quality Wins: LSU, @South Carolina Bad Loss: Arkansas

Dropped Out: Oregon due to their solid loss in Berkely, Clemson got bumped out cause of their almost letdown at Wake but more due to Arkansas and Cal's wins this weekend and their need to be in the top 11.

Past Power Rankings: 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10

Notes

~The Longhorns picked up their first quality victory this week after the win in the Red River shootout, however they did not enter my top 11 on the basis of the fact they only have 1 solid win. They are narrowly out and easily could be argued whether the Oklahoma victory is more impressive than at VaTech or LSU at home or @GaTech. One way or the other the Longhorns will end up slipping into the top 11 eventually as I expect them to run the table while others falter.

~I thought UGA would lose weekend but getting 51 dropped on you at home in Athens, that is just completely unacceptable and honestly they should be ashamed.

~LSU had the leading passer, rusher and receiver in their game against the Gators, but still lost handily. Ouch.

~ACC looks less impressive every week as even the teams that look as if they've risen to the top (Clemson and GaTech) struggled mightily against bad opponents.

~Fresno St. is now 1-4, weren't they decent last year? Including the USC Reggie Bush show last season the Captain Mustache is 1-8 thus eliminating any thought of that being an up and coming program.

~Minnesota blew an extra point in Overtime against Penn St. which cost them the game, this happens basically every week, when did it become difficult to kick an XP.

Lou Holtz is the Homer / Annoyingly Delusional

As my buddy Joe and I always joke, if Notre Dame was suiting up against an all Jesus team, aka a team made up of 55 Sons of God, Lou Holtz would probably still pick Notre Dame to win by a touchdown. So of course this weekend when I'm watching Sportscenter and they have him and fellow old man Corso making predictions, Lou picks ND to beat Michigan. Not that big of a deal, Michigan is a big question mark this year, but of course than Lou says that Notre Dame will win 11 games this year. This is the same Notre Dame that lost to a service academy last year. And just when you thought the douchy homerism was going to end ESPN asks which BCS school is going to be the biggest surprise team in the country. Any guesses to whom it was? I'll give you a clue it was another team he coached. If you guessed South Carolina you would be a winner. Next up on Lou's prediction watch, the Jets win the Superbowl, NC St. wins the ACC, Arkansas dominates the SEC West, Minnesota wins the Big

Ranking the New York Jets Historical Helmets

There's no way you can't go with the Helmet they won the Super Bowl in. You just can't. Next, I really don't understand why they don't where the helmet with the Jet as their throwback uniforms. That helmet is awesome. Then I'm going with the Helmets from the 80s because it's the classic feel and the white face mask is 10 times better than the black one. And the rankings continue until you get to... The Titans Helmet. I hate everything about those Titan uniforms. The Helmets are boring and the colors are GOD awful. Navy blue and Mustard? What the hell is that. Disgusting. If they wore those unis when I was a kid I'd probably be a Giant fan, and be much happier with my life in football.
