It's that time again... time to predict the college basketball season ineptly.
Conferences I Don't Care About Winners
America East: Hartford, CT Bias.
Atlantic Sun: Belmont, Gonna enjoy a #1 drubbing in the tourney.
Big Sky: Montana, The Sky is Blue in Montana.
Big South: Coastal Carolina, Chanticleers all the way.
Big West: Pacific, They're As West as you Can Get.
Colonial:UNC Wilmington, Colonel Wilmington dominates.
Horizon: Butler, They win a lot right?
Ivy League: Penn, It's always the Quakers.
Metro Atlantic: Marist, Foxes are delicious.
Mid-American: Akron, Zip Zip Zippy Dooo.
Mid Continent: IUPUI, Too many Vowels to contain.
Mid-Eastern: Morgan St., Sure why not.
Missouri Valley: Southern Illinois, Saluki power.
Mountain West: UNLV, Rebs take it home.
Northeast: CCSU, Connecticut homer.
Ohio Valley: Samford, And his sons.
Patriot League: Holy Cross, Worcester Homer.
Southern: Davidson, Have a buddy named Davidson, big fella.
Southland: Stephen F. Austin, Stonecold.
Southwestern: Southern, Aptly named.
Sun Belt: Louisiana Lafayette, cause their Ragin Cajuns.
West Coast: Gonzaga, Oooh tough one.
WAC: Nevada., Gonna gamble on Reno.
Unlike last year, I changed zero of those picks, because I'm lazy.
Important Conference Winners
Technically the winner in each of these conferences are their respective tournament victors. However this is meant to be a pick of whom will win the regular season as the Tourny is more of a crapshoot than a full seasons worth of conference games.
ACC Winner: North Carolina, Well I can't pick Duke, so we'll go with UNC again even after they lost their entire team. Roy Williams has restocked the pantry.
Atlantic 10 Winner: Xavier,This is a perennial pick isn't it?
Big East Winner: Nova, Jay Wright is just so pretty and now he doesn't have to worry about DeJuan Blair or Hasheem Thabeet.
Big 10 Winner: Michigan St., They were embarrassed in the National Title game but who cares. It's a new year and UNC does not have the Great White Hope any more. Michigan St. is still the class of the Big Ten and Tom Izzo constantly winning is still annoying.
Big 12 Winner: Kansas, Without Blake Griffin getting in the way the Jayhawks will roll their Big 12 competition.
Conference USA Winner: Memphis, Even with a new coach and a lot of new players is there any doubt that Memphis will win the conference USA?
Pac 10 Winner: Washington, How do you not pick the team led by Isiah Thomas? He was a great coach/GM with the Knicks...
SEC Winner: Tennessee, The Pastel Orange Jacket needs an SEC title.
First Team All-America
G Scottie Reynolds - Nova will be good and Reynolds is their leader and star.
G Kalin Lucas - Another Big 10 championship and Lucas will be the Spartan gettign the most love.
F Devin Ebanks - He's kind of swing guy, not sure if he'd qualify as F or SG, but I love the headband.
F Luke Harangody - <- Insert mandatory goofy white guy here
C Cole Aldrich - Multiple white guys? Unheard of... except for las year when I picked Harngody and Hansbrough
Seasonal Awards
Freshman of the Year: John Wall, Did you see his entrance on Midnight Madness? He's already a superstar.
Player of the Year: Luke Harangody,He's going to average something like 25-14. Especially with no Thabeet and Blair to beat him up 4 games a year.
Coach on the Hotseat: Coach K, You see all those horrendous Duke YouTube clips? This team is not serious about winning.
Coach of the Year: Tom Izzo, He hasn't won the coach of the year award since 1998, it'll be like a life time achievement award.
Sleeper Squad to Make Tourny: Michigan, I'm still kind of in shock that they finally made the tournament last year.
Final Four
Nova - They'll finally get to the show.
Michigan St. - Izzo never underperforms in March.
Kansas - Too much talent.
Kentucky - J-Cal has the best paid athletes in NCAA
National Champion: Nova
Villanova has been on an upswing ever since Jay Wright took over the program. Last season was the first year he got them to the Final Four but they were thwarted by the overwhelming talent of UNC. This season it's time Jay Wright takes the Wildcats and brings some joy back to the ritzy section of Philadelphia where Nova's campus is. They beat Kansas in a close battle at the wire thanks to the leadership and clutch shooting of Scottie Reynolds.
