The Big 5 College Football Games of Week 3

In week 3 there is no heavyweight slugfest but there is many games of intrigue.

5. Nebraska Cornhuskers at Virginia Tech Hokies
Last time the two met the Hokies cleaned up the Huskers in Nebraska, this time the black shirts head into Blacksburg in search of revenge. Nebraska looks to throw their name into the top 25 hat while the Hokies look to get their 2009 campaign straightened out for another trip to the Orange bowl. The Pick: Hokies by 6

4. South California Trojans at Washington Huskies
As I mentioned in the Blogpoll ROundtable, I think this weekends game between USC and Washington will be incredibly interesting. USC continually loses to someone they should easily beat. They just won their biggest OOC game, so if there is going to be a game they sleepwalk through it might very well be this one, especially with Barkley banged up. In the end they probably still win. The Pick: USC 10

3. Tennessee Volunteers at Florida Gators
Oh the humor that will likely be provided by this game. The Kiffikins just lost their big home OOC game against UCLA. Now they get to go on the road to the Swamp where all the Gator players want to gobble them up and chew off the meat on their bones. The Vols are screwed. The Pick: Kiffins by -40

2. Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets at Miami Hurricanes
Miami opened up their season with a big ACC win over FSU while GaTech followed up in week 2 with a big win over Clemson. The two are vying for a spot in the ACC title game this year and both will have a massive desire to win this matchup. The Pick: Yellow Jackets by 6.

1. Florida State Seminoles at Brigham Young Cougars
Why is this the biggest game of the week? Because in all honesty, if a non-BCS team is ever going to crash the BCS title game party, it will be this years BYU. Why? They are already have a win over Oklahoma who could potentially run the table. They could have a win over ACC Champion FSU, if they get their act together. Combine that with the high preseason rankings of TCU and Utah and theirs a chance BYU can crash the partyy if they go undefeated. The Pick: BYU by 7.

Numbers On Steroids: Bret Boone

Numbers on Steroids is a look at baseball players during the 90s to see if anything screams out at you. Mr. Boone was once the best power hitting second baseman in the league. How questionable was his success? Averages Say: Why the extra plateu in his mid 30s? At Bats Per Home Run Says: Lowest at Bats Per Home Runs at 37? Hmm.... Explaining It Away Yeak, this one is tough. Umm, late bloomer? He showed potential power early in his career and he just liked playing in Seattle a lot more than everywhere else? And umm, his career was kind of like a running backs in that it just all of a sudden fell off the map? Any of these convincing you? The Verdict Guy never hits more than 24 home runs in a season and then in his age 32 season he hits 37? And in SafeCo a pitchers park to boot? And he follows that up with 24, 35, 24 homer years still at SafeCo? And then he completely falls off the map in 2005 never to be heard from again? We've got a Screamer... Man Get Big Muscles In 30s. Hm...
