Reviewing My NCAA Hoops Predictions

The season is over, so it's time to review just how dumb I was in the fall with my predictions...

Conferences I Don't Care About Winners

Overall Mid-Major/Small Conference Predictions: 5-18, Yes Shitty but who cares.

Important Conference Winners

Technically the winner in each of these conferences are their respective tournament victors. However this is meant to be a pick of whom will win the regular season as the Tourny is more of a crapshoot than a full seasons worth of conference games.

ACC Winner: North Carolina, Got 'Em

Atlantic 10 Winner: Xavier, Got 'Em

Big East Winner: Georgetown, Got 'Em

Big 10 Winner: Indiana, Actual Champ: Wisconsin. Getting your coach fired midseason doesn't help much.

Big 12 Winner: Kansas,Got 'Em

Conference USA Winner: Memphis, Got 'Em

Pac 10 Winner: UCLA, Got 'Em

SEC Winner: Arkansas, Actual Champ: Tennessee. Arkansas was atleast close.

Overall Important Conference Predictions: 6-2, I got most of the regular season winners right which in tune were half of the tournament winners as well.

First Team All-America

G Brandon Rush - Actual All American Team: 3rd team
G OJ Mayo - Actual All American Team: Didn't Make One
F Chase Budinger - Actual All American Team: Didn't Make One
F Tyler Hansbrough - Got 'Em
C Roy Hibbert - Actual All American Team: 2nd team

Actual First Team: Luke Harongody, Chris Douglas-Roberts, DJ Augustin, Hansbrough and Michael Beasley.

1 for 5. That's great, ha.

Seasonal Awards

Freshman of the Year: OJ Mayo, Actual Champ: Michael Beasley

Player of the Year: Tyler Hansbrough, Got 'Em

Coach on the Hotseat: Coach K, Actual Champ: A Lot of Fired Coaches

Coach of the Year: John Pelphrey, Actual Champ: Bruce Pearl and his playbook.

Sleeper Squad to Make Tourny: Penn St., They sucked...

Again 1 for. Hansbrough pretty much was my only saving grace here.

Final Four

Kansas - Got'em
Memphis - Got 'Em.
North Carolina - Got 'Em.
Georgetown - Didn't end up picking them opted for Kansas instead.

National Champion: Memphis Tigers

So god damn close.

Overall the top picks were on the money, but the majority of the selections were piss poor at best.

Numbers On Steroids: Bret Boone

Numbers on Steroids is a look at baseball players during the 90s to see if anything screams out at you. Mr. Boone was once the best power hitting second baseman in the league. How questionable was his success? Averages Say: Why the extra plateu in his mid 30s? At Bats Per Home Run Says: Lowest at Bats Per Home Runs at 37? Hmm.... Explaining It Away Yeak, this one is tough. Umm, late bloomer? He showed potential power early in his career and he just liked playing in Seattle a lot more than everywhere else? And umm, his career was kind of like a running backs in that it just all of a sudden fell off the map? Any of these convincing you? The Verdict Guy never hits more than 24 home runs in a season and then in his age 32 season he hits 37? And in SafeCo a pitchers park to boot? And he follows that up with 24, 35, 24 homer years still at SafeCo? And then he completely falls off the map in 2005 never to be heard from again? We've got a Screamer... Man Get Big Muscles In 30s. Hm...
