NFL Week 14 Pick Suggestions

A 3-2 record last week is a near miracle. This week, I'll take 3-2 again and move on.

1. Green Bay Packers (-3 1/2) at Chicago Bears
Someone explain to me why this spread is only 3 1/2? The Pack are 8-4 and have been dominating the past few weeks. The Bears are out of the playoff hunt and Jay Cutler can't help himself from throwing 6 INTs a game.

2. Oakland Raiders (+1 1/2) vs. Washington Redskins
Picking the Raiders? Huh? I think the Redskins are tapped after last weeks efforts. They're traveling across the country and the Raiders now have some confidence behind Gradkowski. And they're getting points because everyone thinks they are really really horrible.

3. San Diego Chargers (+3 1/2) at Dallas Cowboys
If you've watched Sportscenter the past few days you've heard one very very large discrepancy. The Cowboys under Tony Romo and Aww Shucks are terrible in December. The Chargers under Phillip Rivers and Cap'n clipboard are undefeated. I'll listen to the trends and take 3 1/2 point to boot.

4. Philadelphia Eagles (+ 1/2) at New York Giants
This is the probably the game with the most on the line this weekend. The Giants pulled off a big victory over the Cowboys last weekend at home but their flaws were still very very evident. They can't stop the pass at all. McNabb and DeSean will pick a part the secondary for big plays and win this game.

5. New York Jets (-3.5) at Tampa Bay Bucs
Like I said last week, if I'm going to go down, I might as well go down with the Jets. Sure Clemens is starting, but if the Jets are truly this big bad defense they shouldn't let the Bucs score 10 points.

Numbers On Steroids: Mickey Mantle

Numbers on Steroids is a look at baseball players during the 90s to see if anything screams out at you. This week it's throwing a curve ball and looking at All Time Great Yankees. Players that we know did not take steroids to see if this gives a defense to any of the players 'convicted' by Numbers on Steroids. At Bats Per Home Run Says: That's a mighty jump from 22 to 24 Explaining As If It Was the 90s If you take a look at the numbers there are two time frames which in the 1990s would be questioned. First would be the incredible leap he took from his first year in the big leagues to his first MVP season in 1956. His batting average jumped 50 points. This Is Why the New York Mets Can't Win Anymore

It's pretty simple why the Mets can't win games anymore and are morphing into the second worst team in the National League, they can't score runs. The below chart shows exactly whats happenned to their offensive output since each of the major devastating injuries. The blue line shows runs scored for each game through out the season. The pink line shows the average runs the Mets scored when they had everyone, the yellow when they were missing Delgado, the light blue when they were missing Delgado and Reyes, and finally the purple when they were missing Delgado, Reyes and Beltran. In the abscence of Reyes, Delgado and Beltran the Mets are averaging barely over 3 runs per game. In stark contrast, with everyone on the roster the Mets were scoring just over 5 runs per game. That's a wholesale difference and why their roster now equals a lot of losses and a day by day progression further out of a playoff spot.
